When you think of fitness, activities like running or lifting weights are usually the most important thing. In fitness, however, the maximum heart rate does not always have to be reached. Just taking a walk outside can have tremendous health benefits. This is exactly what Time to Walk, a new feature for Apple Fitness +, is all about. Time to Walk is a series of podcast-like episodes in which celebrities like Dolly Parton and Draymond Green share stories and insights from their lives, accompanied by some visual elements. As the name suggests, these episodes are designed to be listened to while taking a walk.
In addition to Parton and Green, Apple has also released Time to Walk episodes starring Shawn Mendes and Emmy Award-winning actress Uzo Aduba. Each episode is recorded while walking or in a location that matters to the guest, and the themes for the 25- to 40-minute episodes vary widely. In Parton’s episode, the country music icon promises “a stroll back in time,” as Mendes discusses the benefits of slowing down, and Green, according to Apple, talks about the virtues of failure and turning off criticism.
“There’s nothing like a walk in nature, getting lost in my thoughts and taking a deep breath of fresh air,” says Green in the press release. “I hope that sharing my stories with those who walk with me gives them the same drive to pursue their dreams that I had when I pursued mine.”

Each segment contains corresponding photos that will be displayed on your Apple Watch while listening. This adds a visual element to bring guests’ stories and ideas to life. At the end, each guest also shares a playlist of songs that motivate and inspire them, so you get a new amount of music with each episode. There is even a version for wheelchair users – Time to Push – which combines the audiovisual content with an outdoor wheelchair walk pace workout.
Time to Walk is the latest addition to the Apple Fitness + subscription service that combines the fitness tracking capabilities of the Apple Watch with on-demand, studio-style workouts available on your iPhone, iPad or Apple TV (for 9 .99 USD per month). In addition to a full workout, Time to Walk gives users a short break and an easy way to get moving. Apple plans to release new Time to Walk episodes every Monday through the end of April to make your daily walk even more interesting.
